We successfully migrated about 30 workstations. There are a few folks who weren’t around so there’s some follow-up to do.
Today, we’re working with the Counseling Center, and perhaps HPS.

The Department of Student Life has been migrated off Gemini to Active Directory. There were bumps along the way, and there are a few remaining details to work out.
That’s all I can think of at this point.

I’m trying to add the Grad College’s HP CLJ 2550n to printers. It goes OK until the end, where I’m uploading the Signed 200/XP/2003 drivers. I get an error “Unable to install printer. The print processor does not exist.”

Michael and I migrated the CESS Dean’s office from Gemini to AD yesterday, with help from Andrew and Phil. There are a few major issues (Mac Client, NetBIOS wierdness, Shared area planning) and some minor ones (offline files sync’ing and folder redirection).
We are scheduled to meet with HR today, Accounting tomorrow, and DAR on Monday.
Deb and Rob in CHWB are blasting through the system prep-work for migration. I’m off to provide assistance.
Together, ckeefe and I re-installed Windows XP with SP on four GX270s. The systems are domain-joined and have the Novell client installed. (performance degraded noticably). I removed the DPMS component and configured their printers via printers. I installed Thunderbird, FireFox, and GAIM as well. Carol is going to install MS Office (sans Outlook), Oracle Calendar, BlueZone, and whatever else they need.
Tuesday morning, I made a short list of goals. Here’s how they stand:

I was able to develop some user-interface improvements, and pull together two component scripts. I still need to pull in the third, and to provide more error-checking.

got an email that their inventory had changed since I check for availibility; they sold their last copy. I’ll check again to see if it gets restocked. I want to use my homeschool discount with the gift certificate.
Tuesday
Spent the morning doing script development, walk-throughs with Phil. Made quite a bit of headway.
In the afternoon, I went with Greg to the Audit Services offices in Colchester to do an AD migration. Two PCs and a Mac. They have a rather low-bandwidth connection, so file-copies were slow. I spent the whole time with one PC; it refuses to install SAV 9. %^$! They now complain about printing with a watermark not working. I guess I’ll have to head out there today.
Wednesday
Worked with new colleague mcaha to bring CESS Dean’s Office systems up-to-date. This went relatively smoothly.
I finally got my butt to Aikido. It was a good class–lot’s of suwari-waza. Now I need some Advil.
In the afternoon, mcaha, Phil and I did the final migration for the Grad College.
I wasn’t in my office much at all, Wednesday. I checked email at home last night, and saw that Audit Services shared area hadn’t been copied from Gemini to Files. I started up a RDP session and got the copy underway. This morning, I checked the robocoy log and everything copied OK. Made ACEs for the audit services group.
It’s about 9:30 am; I guess I’ll go head out to audit services.
I met with ccowie, aquinn from the CESS Dean’s Office regarding planning and prep for their migration from Gemini to ADWindows. On Wednesday, I’ll be working with mcaha on bringing their systems into compliance (SPs, Hotfixes,virus protection).
I helped with another issue for mlowder; she had apparently created some local folders with Eudora, which she thought were on the imap server. So when her system was re-images, they were lost. Bad Eudora! I could say untrained user, which would be accurate, but IMAP support in Eudora is so clunky that it would be an easy mistake to create local folders.

Conference call with a group at a Kentucky University that is in the process of deploying Active Directory to replace their existing Novell infrastructure. Our two groups have approached the process in very similar ways. They pointed out the moveuser.exe tool, which accomplishes several steps we’ve been doing by hand.
Greg, Phil, and I then developed a list of decision point that we need to address very soon.
I’ve spent most of the yesterday and today working with Greg to migrate their workstations in the Graduate College from Gemini to AD. There are eight workstations to be migrated; we’ve done six. I’m hoping to get another done this afternoon, but I need to leave on time!
